7 Tons/Hour Capacity Breakthrough! Boretech Partners with Alba Indonesia to Build a Leading PET Recycling Line

2025-3-28

In June 2023, Alba announced the launch of its PET bottle recycling plant construction project in Kendal Industrial Park, Central Java, Indonesia. As a leading food-grade recycled plastic plant in the region, the production line has now been successfully commissioned.

Recently, Alba Indonesia (PT Alba Tridi Plastics Recycling, hereinafter referred to as "Alba Indonesia") officially received the No Objection Letter (NOL) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), confirming that its recycling process meets the food-contact standards for recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET).

For this project, Boretech developed and designed a 7-ton/hour PET bottle recycling and washing system, tailored to meet the specific requirements of Alba Indonesia. The system incorporates a proven process design to ensure that the final rPET meets the quality standards for downstream food-grade packaging applications. This is also the largest single-line PET bottle washing system designed by Boretech for a customer in Indonesia to date.

Boretech provided a one-stop turnkey solution for Alba Indonesia’s plant, covering PET bottle washing line, wastewater treatment system, air compression system, soundproofing room, dust collection system, installation and commissioning, as well as European-brand bottle and flake sorting machines.

In Indonesia, PET bottle feedstock is typically pre-cleaned manually to remove labels, making it relatively cleaner. However, considering the various quality of PET bottle bales, Boretech designed a customized washing process that efficiently handles various types of materials. The washing process includes traditional hot washing, high-speed hot washing, and friction washing. This enhanced washing system effectively removes residual contaminants, improves cleanliness, and ensures that the rPET flakes meet food-grade standards. By optimizing the process, we have significantly increased the added value of the final product and strengthened our customer’s market competitiveness.

Faced with high-quality standards, tight project timelines, and the complexities of managing an overseas engineering project, the Boretech team demonstrated exceptional professionalism and execution capability. Every step of the process was customer-focused, and we actively overcame cultural differences and communication challenges. Through close collaboration with the local team, we earned high recognition from our client.

Alba Indonesia is a joint venture between Germany’s Alba Group and Indonesian plastic recycling company PT Tridi Oasis. Founded in 1968, Alba Group is one of the world’s top ten environmental services and resource recycling companies.

Alba actively complies with Indonesia’s policies and regulations. In 2019, the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry introduced Regulation No. 75/2019, which requires manufacturers, food service providers, and retailers to submit comprehensive waste reduction plans. The goal is to ensure 100% recyclable plastic products by 2029 and reduce waste from the sales of products  and packaging by 30%.

With this regulation and the growing emphasis on environmental sustainability, Alba is expanding its presence in the Asian plastic recycling market. As the global circular economy accelerates and Southeast Asia’s demand for sustainable packaging continues to rise, Boretech will deepen its strategic cooperation with Alba to explore more efficient recycled plastic solutions and contribute to the region’s green industrial transformation.
